What is Athletic Training?

Athletic Training is an allied healthcare profession recognized by the American Medical Association that specializes in the prevention, evaluation, treatment, management and rehabilitation of athletic related injuries and illnesses. The Athletic Trainer (AT) is certified by the Board of Certification, Inc. and is required to obtain a state license from the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine. They serve as a liaison to the athlete, coach, physician and other supplemental personnel that provide care to athletes sustaining physical or emotional trauma.

Hours:

Monday-Friday: 11am - Conclusion of last practice/game

Location:

Athletic Training Room in gym

Student-Athlete Rehabilitation/Treatment

Rehabilitation is available everyday during 4th and 5th periods. Each student is expected to attend rehabilitation on a daily basis. If the students’ schedule does not permit this, accommodations must be made for rehabilitation after school. 

 

Athletic Training Student Aide

*This position requires an application, which is due before the start of each sports season. Please email the Athletic Trainer for more details and an application. 
*One student accepted per sports season
*Required to attend most sports tryouts, games and practices

The goal of this after school program is to educate the participant on different aspects of athletic training, sports medicine, and healthcare. Students will have the opportunity to learn and practice skills and will be evaluated and approved to perform the following under the supervision of the Athletic Trainer:

  • Maintenance of hydration stations

  • Basic wound care and first aid

  • Assistance with emergency response

  • Basic taping techniques

  • Assisting with rehabilitation exercises and modalities

  • Learn about anatomy, concussions, and so much more
