Over the past two weeks, our high school students have been actively engaged in hands-on learning experiences that extend far beyond the classroom. From environmental work to food distribution, healthcare exploration, and neighborhood support, Bruins have demonstrated leadership, compassion, and a strong commitment to the community. These are the core traits of Bruin Pride—showing up, giving back, and making a meaningful difference wherever they go.
One group of 21 Environmental Science seniors joined Ms. Dolan and Ms. Gallagher at Courtesy Stables, where they helped prepare for the farm’s upcoming Haunted Trail and Barn event. Students cleared overgrown plants and natural debris along the trails to make the space safe and welcoming for visiting families. They also had the opportunity to meet the horses, learn about their care, and enjoy a short nature hike—bringing environmental lessons to life in a meaningful way.
Members of Bruins Give Back continued their long-standing partnership with the Jewish Relief Agency, where they helped pack food and essential items for more than 650 families across Philadelphia and surrounding counties. This service project has been part of the BGB mission since 2021 and remains one of the most anticipated volunteer opportunities for our students each year.
Our seniors also took part in the Esperanza Minorities in Health Sciences Symposium, where they explored career pathways in medicine and health care. Students participated in doctor-led lectures, a health-science career panel, and several hands-on activities—including virtual dissections, CPR practice, and ultrasound demonstrations—broadening their understanding of future academic and professional possibilities.
In addition, a group of dedicated 9th grade volunteers spent the day at The Sunday Love Project in Kensington. They sorted children’s clothing and self-care kits and helped set up displays for an upcoming free-shop event that will support local families. Their teamwork and attention to detail helped ensure the space was organized, accessible, and ready to serve the community.
Rounding out the past two weeks of service, high school volunteers partnered with Feast of Justice, where they unloaded full pallets of donated goods, sorted supplies, and assembled bags of non-perishable items for families in need. Students showed exceptional effort and positive energy as they worked together to support one of the city’s busiest community food programs.
Across all these experiences, our Bruins demonstrated the true spirit of service, learning, and leadership. Their actions reflect what it means to make an impact—on their school, on their city, and on themselves.
Way to go, Bruins! Your hard work and heart continue to make a difference.
