The Nutrition and Food Prep course at the Community Academy of Philadelphia (CAP) offers students a unique hybrid learning experience that combines classroom knowledge with hands-on practice.
During the first semester, students are enrolled in an online Restaurant Management class, where they explore the fundamentals of the hospitality and food service industry. Through engaging lessons, they learn about the importance of food safety, hygiene, customer relations, marketing, and using a point-of-sale system—key skills for anyone interested in running or working in a restaurant.
In the second semester, the focus shifts to hands-on food preparation and safety training. Students step into the kitchen to apply what they’ve learned, practicing safe and sanitary food handling while preparing dishes in a variety of ways.
By the end of the course, successful students have the opportunity to earn the ServSafe credential, a nationally recognized certification that demonstrates their understanding of food safety principles and enhances their future employability in the food service industry.
Through this well-rounded program, CAP continues to prepare students for success—whether they choose to pursue culinary arts, hospitality management, or simply want to build valuable life skills.
