Building a Strong Foundation in Health Sciences
For students interested in pursuing careers in medicine, athletic training, or physical therapy, this course provides an invaluable head start. Students dive into college-level anatomy concepts, building a foundation that will support them in future health science studies. They also earn their CPR certification, ensuring every student leaves the program with life-saving skills and the confidence to respond in emergency situations.
One of the most exciting aspects of the class is the hands-on training. Students learn real-world techniques such as taping and bracing, even mastering the ankle tape job that athletic trainers perform daily. While students do not directly provide care for athletes during class, those who want to take their learning further can volunteer as Athletic Training aides after school, working alongside our staff and seeing firsthand what it takes to care for athletes in a competitive environment.
Exploring Sports Medicine Careers
In addition to athletic training, students are introduced to a variety of health-related professions, from nursing and physical therapy to emergency medicine. This exposure helps them understand the many paths available within the medical field. For some, this course has already opened doors — CAP graduates Anyiah Curry and Zoey Torres (Class of 2025) are both pursuing college degrees in Athletic Training, building on the skills and knowledge they first developed here.
A Second Track: Sports Marketing
This program doesn’t stop with medicine. On alternating days, students shift gears to explore Sports Marketing, learning about careers in event promotion, management, and community engagement. Students even serve as “Fan Ambassadors” at CAP sporting events, helping promote games and school spirit. This unique dual-focus approach means students graduate with exposure to two industries — health sciences and sports management — broadening their career options and strengthening their resumes.
A Classroom that Feels Like the Real World
The program’s structure gives students the best of both worlds: lecture-style lessons to cover academic concepts and lab-style sessions for practicing skills. The blend of hands-on learning, real-world application, and career exploration makes this course stand out as one of CAP’s most future-focused opportunities.
Why It Matters
Whether a student is passionate about becoming an athletic trainer, exploring healthcare, or interested in the business side of sports, this program provides meaningful preparation. Students graduate not only with knowledge and certifications but also with confidence, leadership experience, and a clearer vision for their future.
