After School Services
The After School Program, provided by One Bright Ray (OBR), is designed for students, grades K-6, who are enrolled at Community Academy of Philadelphia. OBR understands that parents are faced with the difficult task of finding quality care for their child(ren). It is our goal to enrich the lives of children academically, socially, culturally, and physically while also providing a safe and secure environment. At all times, students are supervised by caring, competent, and qualified staff members.

Description of After School Programming
Snack Time
Snack breaks are scheduled daily. Snacks are provided by the program; however, parents are encouraged to pack additional healthy snacks.
Homework Assistance
This session is mandatory for all students participating in the After School program (with the exception of Kindergarten). During this time, students receive homework assistance from qualified staff members. Please keep in mind that students may not complete all of their homework during the designated time. We encourage parents to make sure all work is completed at the end of the day.
Ocean Science - New Jersey Academy of Aquatic Sciences
New Jersey Academy of Aquatic Sciences will work with students to investigate topics related to the ocean environment. Using experiments, live animals, and energy students will explore questions from "How are tidal waves made" to "Why sharks detect electricity". The program is designed to support student achievement and engagement in science exploration. This program is aligned with core curriculum standards and will help compliment what is currently being taught in the classrooms.
Theatre Arts - Enchantment Theatre Company
Enchantment Theatre Company will meet with students to offer theatre arts. Students are given the opportunity to learn the language of movement and physical theatre. Students will also be exposed to a variety of theatre forms which will help foster self expression, encourage teamwork, inspire self confidence, and light up the imagination.
Science Club with The Academy of Natural Sciences
The Academy of Natural Sciences will be bringing the excitement of a museum visit to the classroom. This class meets once per month and includes specimens, live animals, and expert naturalists. The information provided in this class will help supplement what is being taught in the classroom.
Red Cross Month
In January, the Red Cross will be meeting with students each week for various safety and prevention sessions. "Scrubby Bear" will teach students the importance of maintaining good personal hygiene. "When I'm in charge" will teach students about necessary precautions they should take when left home alone. "Out of Jeopardy" will test the students knowledge of precautions needed to take in the event of danger or emergencies.
Film Club
Students will enjoy the opportunity to view educational and/or youth type films. After watching the films, students will have an open discussion regarding the content of the film.
Dance Class
This is a great class for students that just can't seem to keep still! Students will study the most popular forms of Dance and learn the culture and historic foundation of their development. Students will develop self-discipline, confidence building, creative and personal growth while building self esteem.
Arts and Crafts
Taller Puertorrqueno will be meeting with students twice per week to assist students in building works of Art. Students will experiment with paint, mosaics, collages, and much more!

Staff will be teaching and modeling good character by emphasizing the universal values that we all share. Classes will focus upon Self Esteem Building, Conflict Resolution, Integrity, Self Discipline, and much more.
Technology
