For College and/or Trade School

Your junior year of school is extremely important as you prepare for college - Colleges are particularly interested in your grades from the 11th grade. Stay organized with the checklist below:

December Checklist

  • Begin to research colleges - Visit the Guidance Department for help with identifying colleges of interest
  • Talk to parents, mentors, guardians, about your college plans

January / February Checklist

  • Gather SAT prep material so that you know what to expect
  • Explore test-taking strategies. You can find a great deal of test preparation material online.
  • Register for the SAT coming up in the spring. Taking the SAT early gives you a chance to take it again later if you need to raise your score (See Bottom for List of Deadlines for SAT registration)
  • Attend open house at your colleges of choice or call the admissions department to set up a private campus tour.

  • Register for the SATs coming up in May and June
  • Begin to narrow your college choices.
  • Continue to visit colleges with your parents and/or guardians

  • Take the SATs
  • Research scholarship opportunities and request application materials.
  • Request college catalogues and applications

July / August Checklists

  • Continue to refine your list of potential colleges and universities and request applications and financial aid materials from those schools.
  • Begin to work on your application essays.
  • Continue to visit colleges and attend college fairs with your parents or guardians.
