Europe 2011

March 2011 found CAP’s experiential education class returning to some of the most popular sites in the world. CAP students chosen by the high school faculty for their good grades, conduct, and inquisitive minds were off to London, Paris, Rome and Vatican City. Arriving in London, taking the “Chunnel” train to Paris, and flying to Rome, CAP’s adventurers visited most of the major the major cultural hot-spots on anyone’s list. From a walking tour of London, Windsor and Buckingham Castles, the Tower, Covent Garden, the National Gallery, St. Paul’s, and the British Museum to see the Rosetta Stone, Elgin Marbles, and mummies, mummies, mummies. The students took many rides on the “Tube,” even one to see the “West End” version of Chicago. In Paris it more of the same: The Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, Louvre, Notre Dame, Chateau de Versailles, Montmartre and Sacre-Coeur Basilica, and the stroll through the “Left Bank.” More time in the underground trains brought us to a totally French meal of duck and escargot! On to Rome, where the food was Italian all the time, yum. Amazing visits to the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, the Pantheon, the Vatican, including St. Peter’s (the “Pieta,” altar, dome, and St. Peter’s grave) and the Sistine Chapel with its frescoes of the “Creation” and “Last Judgment” by Michelangelo! We sat on the Spanish steps in the drizzle and threw “three coins in the fountain” at Trevi. Oh, and did I mention the food? View Photo Gallery »

Eastern Europe 2010

In the Spring of 2010, CAP’s intrepid experiential education class made its first visit ever to Eastern Europe. Students stopped in Budapest (Hungry), Bratislava (Slovakia), Vienna (Austria), and Prague (Czech Republic). This bus tour through the central plains and foothills of the Alps, exposed CAP students to the ghetto of Budapest, Monument Park (“Memento Park” where the grand statues of Stalinist Eastern Europe are hidden away), St. Stephan’s Basilica (in Pest) and the Royal Castle in Buda, the Schonbrunn Palace (Vienna), the Prague Castle, St. Vitus Cathedral, and the Old Town Square with its Astronomical Clock. The students ate a goulash dinner in Budapest, also, wiener schnitzel and the “world’s best” chocolate cake in Vienna. Our students were lucky to stay in a hotel overlooking Wenceslas Square the scene of the 1968 historic and tragic “Prague Spring.” View Photo Gallery »

Europe 2009

In March 2009, we visited London. Paris, and Venice in a whirlwind tour of the some of Europe's most interesting sites. We saw the musical Wicked on the West End stage, marveled at the crowned jewels at London's Tower, and became pro's at riding the "tube." After we rode the luxurious Eurostar to Paris, we stood in awe before the "Mona Lisa" and all the great art at the Louvre and Musee D'Orsay. We visited the grave of Napoleon Bonaparte, Notre Dame Cathedral, and trekked to Versailles. As an unexpected honor, we were invited by a French general to participate in the solemn ceremony of refreshing the eternal flame at the Tomb of France's Unknown Soldier under the Arc de Triomphe. Mr. Proietta and representative students signed the official book that is kept forever in the archives of the French Republic. We then flew to Venice to experience the foods of Italia and ride Gondolas on the Grand Canal. We even took the Venetian "bus…" it was a boat! View Photo Gallery »

Peru - 2008

In 2008, the group left on leap year day (February 29) to visit Peru, our frist trip to the southern hemisphere and South America. The students visited Lima and dined above the Pacific Ocean at sunset. The group then flew to 13,000 feet and the ancient Inca city of Cusco. From there, it was a 2-hour train trip to Aguas Calientes and onto Machu Picchu. Students enjoyed native meals, including alpaca, Inca Cola, and cuy (guinea pig), as well as, petted llama, planted potatoes, and played futbal and volleyball with local students. In March 2006, we visited Greece where we traveled to Athens and climbed the Acropolis. We visited the sites of Corinth, Delphi, Mycenae, Mystras, Nafplio, Olympia, and the islands of Aegina, Poros and Hydra. Europe - 2005

In 2005, we embarked on another trip to Europe, the focus: Remembering WWI and WWII. We spent several emotional hours on the beaches of Normandy and at the American cemetery overlooking the invasion beaches. We visited the Battle of the Bulge sites covered in snow, and walked through a German cemetery near Verdun as the snow fell and the wind blew. We ended our tour in the chocolate lover's heaven of Brussels. View Photo Gallery »

Italy - 2004

In 2004, we traveled back to beautiful Italy (our first visit was in 1999) where we visited Venice, Florence, Rome and the archeological sites of Pompeii... and had Pizza Margarita near Naples! In Italy, we experienced the language, culture, and history (and food!) of this historic country.

England - 2001; China - 2002; Ireland & UK - 2003

In 2001, we toured England spending two days in Oxfordshire secondary schools; in an eye-opening 2002 tour of China, our students climbed the Great Wall, visited the Forbidden City, saw the Terra Cotta Warriors, and cruised the Huangu, a tributary of the Yangtze River in Shanghai. In 2003, our students meandered through Ireland, ferried across the Irish Sea to Wales, visited Shakespeare's birthplace and ended in London, having seen plays at the Abbey (Dublin), Royal Shakespeare (Stratford), and the West End.
