The Teresa Gonzalez Mena Memorial
Early Childhood Center

The daycare operates as an in-school childcare facility for the children of our teen parents and faculty members. The Center provides childcare, parenting education, and medical advice to our young, students/parents. Since the Center opened, truancy and absenteeism by teen parents in our school has been reduced by over 20 percent with teen parent attendance having increased from 61 percent to 83 percent. In addition, faculty and staff attendance has improved, and both students and employees can return as soon as possible from maternity leave, reducing maternity leave time by 20 percent.

Our Early Childhood Center is named after Teresa Gonzalez Mena. Her daughter Teresa D. Casañas BS, CHS alumna, was the founding director of the Center and remains director today.

The Center’s N3-N4 educational program, located in our new pre-school facility attached to the daycare (toddlers and baby rooms), is a separate school supervised by our lower school. Ms. Rosa Ramos, is principal of the lower school (N3-grade 4) and supervisor for early childhood education. The Teresa Gonzalez Mena Early Childhood Center is certified by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.

Note: The Center enrolls only the children of CAP and Fairhill Community High School students, faculty, and staff.
